Mens’ FAQ

Here are a few questions that are specific to male waxing treatments.  Please have a look at the womens’ wax faq as there will be relevant information for men too.

Q. Can you run through what will happen for intimate waxing?

A: First, you fill out a record card so that we know there are no contra-indications to you getting waxed.  You are then shown to the room, the process is explained to you in more detail, you are then left to get undressed from the waist down.  Keep your top on and your socks, sit/lie on the bed and cover yourself with the towel provided.

Q. Is it hygienic?

A: The room is immaculate, the spatulas are not re-dipped into the wax after an application and you are given wipes to freshen up with before the treatment.

Q. Will it be sore?

A: Yes, the first time, but most people say it isn’t as sore as they expected it to be.  If you get waxed regularly the hair gets finer and sparser and therefore not as painful.  If you are worried, take a couple of Nurofen or similar, 30minutes to an hour before your appointment time to take the edge off.

Q. I have been using hair removal cream/shaving, how long should I wait until I can be waxed?

A: The ideal hair length is 1cm or slightly shorter, so probably wait around for 4weeks for the hair to grow back.

Q. The last time I was waxed I got lots of lumps and bumps.

A: This is not uncommon for chest waxing or if the hair is particularly thick and/or course.  Try taking an anti-histamine half an hour or so before your appointment time.

Q. Do you use the same kind of wax for intimate waxing as for backs etc?

A: No, we use non-strip wax for intimate waxing.  The wax goes on in a thicker layer and sets, then it is peeled off. We use the excellent French wax, Peron Rigot, for all male intimate waxing, underarms, eyebrows, ears and nostrils.

Q. Can I have the hair that’s left on the front trimmed?

A: Yes, you can have a clipper length number 1 or number 2.

Q. Do I have to get on all fours?

A: Yes, if you are having your anus/buttocks waxed.
No, if it is just the penis and scrotum.

Q. Can I keep my underwear on or cover up my penis?

A: No, not for intimate waxing.

Q. I’m worried incase I get an erection.

A: Some men do, slightly, as an involuntary reaction and that is nothing to worry about, we just carry on.  However, if you are getting waxed for any other reason than to have your hair removed you then run the risk of embarrassing yourself, your appointment being cut short and still being charged.

Q. Is there anything I can do at home afterwards or cream I should buy?

A: We sell Australian Bodycare Tea Tree cream which is an excellent moisturiser for the waxed area.  Use it after showering and it will reduce the chance of ingrown hairs and soothes the skin.  Use shower gel instead of soap as it is less likely to clog your pores.  Any area that has been waxed should be exfoliated once or twice a week as you feel the hair starting to grow back.  This will help the hair break through the surface of the skin.  Always moisturise after showering/bathing.

For 24 hours after waxing:

  • You should avoid excess sweating, ie gym, sauna, steam room.
  • It is fine to shower/bathe, but have the water cooler than usual.
  • Don’t use highly scented lotions and potions on the waxed area.
  • No sunbeds (for a couple of days) or fake tan.
  • Wear clean underwear after intimate waxing and generally avoid anything that will allow bacteria to enter the open pores.

If there is anything that isn’t covered here, please don’t hesitate to send us an email.  Due to being so busy in the salon we don’t have the time spare to chat on the phone about the details of intimate waxing.

Appointments cannot be made via the website – please call the salon on 0141 204 3100.
